510 Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity House (1937)
510 Alpha Tau Omega (1944)6. Mystery Octagon House. The home appears in the 1858 Map of Calhoun County, but no name/owner is given on the map. The 1866 Birds Eye Drawing is very similar to the McGee Octagon home. The report, “A History of the Octagonal Homes of Albion” by Phyllis McDonald (1978), p. 11, suggests that McGee might have lived here and built both octagonal homes. The 1869 Village Directory does not list a home on this site, while the 1873 Atlas shows a new home at the site, which was then owned by E.W. Lawyer. Perhaps the Octagon house suffered a fire and had to be demolished. It would have been located on the SE corner of E. Erie and Allen Place. [Source: Passic, 1988]
